Still Fighting to keep RadioRadio & other stations online on air …

Here’s two links with information and suggestions on how to keep internet radio (RadioRadio, NPR, and everyone else inbetween) legal, affordable and doable. The time is now, action is needed or we’ll all lose so much I doubt we can quantify it.

Please understand the danger is real, more than likely if this pile of steaming you-know-what isn’t turned around in Congress, that will be the end of RadioRadio and just about every podcaster, streaming station or interesting bit of audio online that you’ve ever enjoyed or ever might possibly enjoy in the future. This legislation is hateful and nauseating.

Sick of SL Being Broken, Not Fixed, etc.?

Take a look at this, Project Open Letter, a petition to spur Linden Labs to get working on fixing more than they break, and fixing stuff that’s more than overdue repairing. Basically, we’re asking them to provide the service advertised, fix tp’s, friends list issues, sim performance and asset server problems. You know, the stuff that makes SL work or not.

Broadcasting Threatened by New Legislation – A Call To Arms!

Posted on March 15, 2007. Filed under: broadcasting, business, computers, Congress, Dissent, DJing, election, electronic, Free Speech, Grass-Roots, Liberal, Music, Politicians, Politics, PR, RadioRadio, taxes, Technology, voting, Webcasting |

Hyperbole aside, free speach, the ability (not even the right) to broadcast over the net, as well as in other media/formats has been threatened in a direct, convoluted and expensive manner by the March 2, 2007 Copyright Royalty Board rate determination. Below find a number of links with relevant information and ways to fight back, speak out and speak up against this ridiculous action.

Just to be clear the objection I have is not so much that they’re trying to enforce licensure but the manner with which it is to be enacted. Creating a “tax” is one thing, making it retroactive to January 2006 is another thing entirely. Charging folks running non-commercial stations (small fry like RadioRadio) 500 dollars (USD) and up a year seems a bit extreme, and the rates applied to so-called commercial stations are prohibitive for anyone in the developmental/growth stage. Gone will be album side shows, 2 for Tuesdays, Artist-focused programming much less the ability to take a song request and play it within an HOUR of request receipt, these restrictions seem rather restrictive and stringent for a reasons I cannot fathom.

Before one dismisses this as an issue of a bunch of folks spinning tunes off their home computers, consider this, NPR has filed a class action suite, claiming that nearly 60% of their programming would be effected. Satellite stations are also at risk with this action, so please take a moment to consider the far-reaching implications and let your governmental entities know where you stand on this important issue.

YARRGH! Perform becomes a dirty word!

Posted on February 8, 2007. Filed under: computers, Congress, Dissent, Grass-Roots, Politicians, Politics, Technology, theft |

Man oh man, today is shaping up to be a soap box derby race to protect broadcasting! Not only do we need to save NPR and PBS (see post earlier today), but lil ole streaming stations like RadioRadio are being targeted for extinction by “the PERFORM Act, a back door assault on your right to record off the radio”.

Yes, extinction.

The issue is, well as it always is, about money. Control. Power. Who has the bag w/the most marbles at the end of the game.

Well here’s the thing. We can let folks know that we don’t want this legislation. We don’t want to worry about the governmental boogie men if we transfer files over our home LAN… ya know from your desk top to your lappie? How’d you like that to be considered a crime? No fooling.

Ok, so I don’t want the G-men stopping me from (fill in the blank), what DO I do? Click here and sign the petition!

If the link is wonky for whatever reason here’s the raw linkage:

NPR and PBS Funding at Risk – Again!

Put this in the category of I’m tired of these items even being an issue of discussion. I do not understand how actions that might limit access to public knowledge and information, freedom of the broadcast press if you will can be considered something to omit from our national budget.

Click here to reach the MoveOn dot org Petition Page.

When will G.W. Bush stop cutting into our rights and liberties? Even with the balance in Congress shifted against his agendas, he seems bound and determined to test all of our mettle. Just really ticks me off.
