SLCC 2007 Chicago

SLCC (Second Life Community Convention) 2007 will be held in Chicago, at the Hilton and Towers at 8th and Michigan Avenue downtown, August 24, 25 and 26th. This is the 3rd year the convention has been held (NYC 2005 and San Francisco 2006) and the anticipated attendance will be 850 or so folks.

There will be a variety of planned activities, live musicians, DJs (radio style & turntablist/mixers), a leather and lace themed mascarade ball on Saturday night, as well as 4 different presentation tracks (Business, Education, Machinima and Social). Frankly, I think the biggest problems with this convention will be the inability to be in more than one place at a time and sheer exhaustion!

SLCC 2007 Official Blog – Plenty of information on how to get there, what to do in Chicago, how to get around, as well as much healthy discussion of the development of the event and announcements as they become available.

The discount priced rooms in the Hilton have sold out and frankly the convention itself is approaching sell-out status as well. I’ve been told that in years past, 40-odd percent of the total attendees registered in the final 4 weeks leading up to the event, this year we’re beyond the 60% point already with only a little over 2 weeks to go yet!

Check out the left-hand column on the Official SLCC 2007 blog, there are links for room sharing, ride sharing and check past posts for some tips on finding other nearby hotels that might have favorable rates!

If, perchance, making the trip to Chicago is not in the cards for you, do not despair! There will be a concurrent in-world convention, streamed audio live from Chicago as well as podcasts and hopefully some Utube like postings of video of the goings-on as well! (Streamed video is just not yet practical with the state of current technology, I mean if Mac can’t get it to work for them for theri own conventions, who are we?)

the convention is over, and preparations for next year have begun. I had a great time, got to meet skads of folks and got lots and lots of hugs, as I had hoped. Ended up losing my phone, getting very little sleep and feeling a great sense of accomplishment. I’m focusing on my RL stuffs more these days and looking to the future more than I have in a long time, come to think of it. That’s a good thing.
